Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. honors “stay cowboy” way of life
Prescott’s most anticipated event of the year runs in Prescott June 28 through July 4
PRESCOTT: In today’s fast-paced world where everyone seems to keep as busy as possible and do as much as they can…Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. has strategically picked a historical memory of “Stay Cowboy” that does just the opposite. This theme, now a registered trademark with the State of Arizona, represents the simple way of life and we are proud to “hang our hat” on it.
“Stay Cowboy” hopefully comes as a friendly reminder of back in the day when people treated each other with kindness and embraced business decisions with a simple hand shake. It represents the simple way of life but also has significance in the rodeo arena that stems back to the early 1900s when cowboys were encouraged to “Stay Cowboy, Stay” meaning to stay in the “well” (a.k.a. the saddle) while riding a bucking horse that required an eight-second ride in order to qualify for cash prizes and possibly a title.
The term “stay cowboy” was also used as an advertising slogan (or tagline) in the early 1900s by Santa Fe Railroad to bring people from all over the west coast (Arizona, New Mexico and California) to watch the Prescott Frontier Day â rodeo (the original name).
With world-class rodeo and family-friendly events occurring for almost seven straight days, the World’s Oldest Rodeo® is truly Prescott’s most anticipated event of the year. People come from all over the world to visit Prescott during Prescott Frontier Days and to be a part of rich-western culture and history that stems back to July 4, 1888.
WRANGLER PRORODEO TOUR RODEO:
The World’s Oldest Rodeo is listed as one of 22 rodeos in the U.S. included as part of the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour and will be covered on ProRodeoTV.com on July 3. http://prorodeo.com/prorodeo/tours-circuits/wrangler-prorodeo-tour
PARADE: Saturday, June 30 at 9 a.m. in downtown Prescott
To properly kick off the parade, Prescott Frontier Days, Inc. proudly announces the parade grand marshal is a friend, rodeo legend and professional rodeo announcer – Mr. Randy Corley. Randy has been the “voice” of the World’s Oldest Rodeoâ since 1984. In 2017, Randy was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and has been nominated and awarded the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Announcer of the Year twelve times (1984, 1990-1996, 1998, 2003, 2011 and 2015).
